Understanding Reiki

The practice of Reiki is anchored in the idea that healing emerges from happiness. Happiness then is a key that opens a certain state of harmony allowing us to recenter and find peace in body, mind, and spirit. It provides a space where we can see ourselves as a whole person and initiates a discovery of unknown potentials.

However, we humans tend to get in our own way. Life presents various experiences to aid in our development and how we respond to these encounters determines how close we come to realizing our inner truth. Unfortunately, we often have trouble seeing the whole picture and so that truth becomes clouded. Without clarity, we run into roadblocks particularly when we allow ourselves to be consumed by the anger, worry, envy, dishonesty, and spite we are triggered by on the surface.

This is where Reiki comes in. Reiki helps to cut through the clutter and regain clarity and focus. It concentrates on the source of our ailments healing our deepest wounds and stimulating growth. Yes! This happens at a physical, mental, and emotional level because they are all interconnected. Reiki is a Japanese word that, in its simplest translation means: to bridge the flow of wisdom, guidance, and healing from the source of this vital life-giving energy. This is the energy that animates all life. It is a force that has been identified in various languages, across cultures, and in even in science as Chi, Prana, Ti, the Biofield, and more.  Ultimately, Reiki shines a light on our deepest wounds and brings them to the surface where we can not only see what causes our pains more clearly, but also identify what steps we need to take to move past them.

However, Reiki is not a miracle cure. It is a step along the way towards healing. It holds a light in a place of darkness showing a way towards happiness. Maintaining that sense of well-being falls on the responsibility of those who seek healing. Everyone has the power to restore balance in their lives. We all know our issues and traumas and even how to move past them. So, why seek help from someone who holds a space for healing? Because the mind is programmed to protect, which causes deflection. When we can’t immediately detect the pain, we assume we can just go on as usual, and we try to. We move forward attempting to bury the hurt. The problem is, and to quote Karol Truman, “Feelings Buried Alive Never Die”. A Reiki practitioner, while holding a space for healing for a particular individual, is detached from that mind-trap. Without this bias, the issue can be addressed from a point of love and safety. It makes it easier to reveal the disturbance and confirm what the person holds in their subconscious. That realization initiates the natural healing process.

The healing process is just that: a path towards development. What Reiki can do is reflect that journey, providing those first steps. It helps the person seeking healing to rediscover appropriate ways to identify with anger. Rather than being consumed by worry, Reiki helps the person visualize ways to redirect energy towards a solution to the concern. Reiki reawakens a sense of gratitude so that it is possible to recognize how even in the face of the most difficult lessons in life we can find rewards. It reminds us we can regain our sense of control in life. Whether or not we continue the work it lays before us is entirely our own decision.

Reiki is not a religion, but it embraces prayer, meditation, divine inspiration, intuition, and the great mystery of life. It is not a means intended to diagnose or prevent disease and is instead a complimentary form of energy therapy. Alongside other treatments Reiki is unlikely to encounter negative side effects. It can provide relief from daily mind-chatter, pain, grief, trauma, insomnia, anxiety, noise, stress, and at the very least give a brief period of peace when needed the most.

With all this said, my mission as a Reiki practitioner, is to hold a space for this healing to take place. As a teacher, I am open to guiding that process when requested. Those who seek restoration will be met with compassion and acceptance in a safe environment where they might find clarity and the courage to heal and grow towards happiness. I intend to nurture interconnectedness while honoring the individual journey towards the realization that we all have the power to heal. I am here to call people home to that place in all our hearts where we experience our true potential.
